Indigo Incite Deleted Scene #2

Indigo Incite Twitter (2)  I contemplated the best deleted scene to share, while I perused several pre-published editions of Indigo Incite. For the second round of deleted scenes, I decided to share the Prologue. I love prologues. They set up a story and provide important info, but in the end, when I had to shorten the word count, the prologue didn’t prove to be as vital to the story and ultimately, didn’t make the cut. Neverthless, I still love it and wanted to share it with you 🙂 So, for those of you who have already read Indigo Incite, here’s what happened before the story 🙂 And for those of you who haven’t read it yet, here’s the background story 🙂

PROLOGUE

Their best tracker, Ian, had failed to return from his latest mission. He had seemingly disappeared without a trace. At first, Henry was concerned that something may have happened, but after a search of Ian’s home, they had discovered that his personal belongings were gone as well. It seemed that his disappearance may have been planned.

So now, he was faced with a dilemma. Ian was a liability. He knew too much, but he was also a valuable asset. Henry had been ordered to find him and bring him in, no matter the cost. How had Ian managed to disappear without a trace?  And how was it possible that his other trackers couldn’t locate him? They were questions that needed answers; and at the moment, he was at a loss where to begin. He sat behind his mahogany desk and poured over the most recent research reports sent by trackers from out on the streets. His boss wanted answers; and so far, answers were hard to come by.

A knock at the door caught his attention. He glanced at his Rolex and was shocked to realize the time. He hadn’t taken a break for several hours.

     “Come in,” he called.

“Hey, Henry, I hope I’m not bothering you. I thought you might be hungry. I brought a plate from the kitchen, and I’ve also brought news.”

“Thanks, Jesse. It’s a welcome break.” His lead operative handed him a plate piled high with steak fries and a warm Philly cheese steak sandwich. “This looks great. Have a seat, please.”

Not only his second in command, at the compound, Jesse was also a trainer and former tracker. His opinion was valued.

“You said you have news? Something good I hope. I’ve been staring at these reports for hours, and I can’t find a thing. It’s like Ian never existed. There’s no trace of him, anywhere. He might as well have been abducted by aliens.”

Jesse looked up. “You don’t think…do you think that’s what happened?”

Henry took a bite of sandwich and considered the idea. “I hadn’t seriously considered it…no, I don’t think so. I mean, it’s not impossible, but the signs point elsewhere. His disappearance was planned. We searched the apartment. He was very selective in the items he took; he’s obviously traveling light. We haven’t been able to find him because he doesn’t want to be found.”

“It doesn’t make sense though. Whether he wants to be found or not, we’ve had trackers searching for him for over a year, the best trackers in the business, and even they can’t explain why there’s no sign of him.”

“Well, we’ll keep looking. We have to. We can’t afford to have him wandering around, unaccounted for. If I don’t have an answer soon, my boss is going to have me for lunch. I’m the one who will be held responsible for Ian’s disappearance. So, tell me please, what news do you have? I need some good news, right now.”

“We may have some new recruits; they’re identical twin boys. Carla thinks they may be even more powerful than Ian.”

Ready to take a sip of water, Henry paused and set the glass down. “Really? Now you have my interest. Tell me more. Where are these twins?”

“They’re in Arizona. Carla’s been keeping an eye on them for a couple of weeks; she says their gifts are unparalleled to anything we’ve seen.

“Two for the price of one. I like it. When is she going to bring them in?”

     “Well, that’s the problem.”

“Problem? I don’t want to hear about any problems. If they’re as powerful as she says, then we need them. Period. End of story. What’s the hold up?”

“Well, right now, they’re separated. Their parents have given permission for one of the twins to go to California. It seems that the other twin is away from home. It might be a little more difficult to get him.”

“I’m sure you can find a way. Forget California. I want them brought here.”

“What should we tell their parents?”

“I don’t care. Don’t tell them anything. As far as the parents are concerned, the boy will go to California. Just make sure that he never arrives.”

     “And the other twin?”

“Tell Carla to work on the parents. Get him home. And if she can’t, well…kids run away all the time. He might just be another statistic.”

     “Gotcha.”

“Bring them here. I don’t care what you have to do. We need them. They might be the key we need to find Ian.”
